Floppy transfers between XP and Me

When I download files on my XP based pc to a floppy I can not take them and upload into my Me based pc. This also works vice versa. Is there no compatibility here? Appreciate any answers or solutions. Thanks

Files are just data and I have never had any problem copying data to a diskette and then copy that data to any other Windows system. Same would go for a USB memory drive.

The exception being if the diskette is bad or one of the diskette drives has problems and can not read the data and gets read errors. Read errors are not a Windows ME/XP problem but a hardware problem.

Now Windows XP's Office files might be in a format not supported by older Windows ME versions of the programs. In that case you might have to export them in the older format and then copy them to diskette to move them so the older Windows ME Office programs can accept them.

Thanks for the input. I have an error 30 problem on my Me pc (Ver 4.9) and can't get into the control panel. This may intefer with the transfer. Upon you suggestion though I will change the floppy drive.

There must be twenty different error 30 associated with PC systems, so that does not tell anyone much about what the problem is. It could be a IE Script error 30, or some other like a file system or hardware error. The "Control Panel" does not have error messages itself. So the full text of what the "error 30" and how it is displayed is necessary to have any clue as to why you are getting it. After all, we can not even see what color the background of the message is, much less what it says.

It sounds more like you have some sort of ADware/Virus/Trojan damage.

Floppy format has not changed in over a decade. Even those made by DOS can be read
by XP, unless the floppy diskette is bad, which does happen over time.

I once encountered a problem in which two floppy drives were each near opposite ends
of the correct allignment. Files written by one could not be read by the other.
A corporate PC technician aligned the drives. Today, I would simply buy a new floppy
drive, since that would likely me cheaper than a service call.

As for which PC might have the bad (or worse) floppy drive, that would usually be
the older one. However, make a few floppies on both PCs and try to read them on
other computers to see whether a pattern developes. Of course, use new floppy diskettes
to eliminate old diskettes as the problem.
