Recently got a pc card from Verizon for the Presario Compaq 1200 laptop. It doesnt
reconize the card and Verizon can't help.Verizon says I need a driver(part of the
system). Can only find WL210 wireless PCI card driver on line. Don't know if this
is what I need. Any help would be appreciated. The pc card is a 5740 if that helps.

If it is a card supported by Windows, then it should automatically install the driver.
Otherwise some cards should come with a driver CD or media of some kind. Some of
the cards supplied by Verizon need a software setup CD. Exactly what type of card
is it (and exactly what is it supposed to be used for as there are different cards
for different types of uses)?? Need brand and model of card to help any further.
Just the numbers supplied don't really help..

Must be talking about this
new EVDO access card from Verizon. For such a cheap card, Verizon can not afford
to supply much support. Seems there is some problems with some Compaq systems and
Verizon has no solution for the problem. Sounds like they are just passing their
problem off to someone else.
Seems these EVDO cards have a history of not working with some models of laptops.
See this example
of the types of hits searches get. They should have drivers with them or available,
and there are web sites that support the EVDO cards, where such information would
be available.

I assume you're PAYING for Verizon wireless access, correct? If it were me and I
couldn't get it working easilly, I'd take the laptop and the EVDO card back to Verizon
and tell them to either make it work or give me a refund...including accesss charges.

Thank you all for trying to help. I have tried to install the broadband internet
service using the card (yes thats the one 5740)supplied from Verizon and each time
it says hotplug.dll not found.Downloaded it and it still says the same thing. Took
it to Verizon store and he said....oh it's because it's ME and there is a lot of
problems with that. Not being real puter smart I have come to the conclusion there
must be something wrong with the puter and am thinking about possibly doing the upgrade
to XP. There may be something I have to do with hotplug, but if so I am in the dark.

Doesn't surprise me.. ME has a number of issues. Before you consider upgrading
to XP though, check with the computer manufacturer to see if they are supporting
an XP upgrade (on your model machine) as you will most likely have to install drivers
from their website. If they aren't suppling drivers for XP, you could have a real
mess on your hands. Portable machines are known to need proprietary drivers for
the hardware.
