Hi everyone,

I was using the internet just fine one day and then the next day, without restarting,
I had no internet connection. It seems that I have connection according to winipcfg,
but when I open the browser or try to log onto msn, I cant do it.

In winipcfg, I still get an IP address, it says that my IP address is 192.168.0.100
with a default gateway of 192.168.0.1, and subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

Anyway I released and renewed it still no internet.

I did the pinging of the addresses, PING 127.0.0.1 and default PING 192.168.0.1.

PING 127.0.0.1 had no loss, 4 packets sent and recieved. That is working I assume.

I also pinged the default, 192.168.0.1, 4 sent and 0 received. I assume this is
my problem because its NOT receiving packets.

I repaired the winsock code by unchecking dial-up and I restarted.

I also did a check with spybot and norton antivirus. No threats.

I plugged the cable into another computer and it works
fine so its nothing wrong with the cable either.

After all that, I still have yet no internet :(

What else could be wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Trina

Sounds like your very knowledgeable and on the right track. I guess I would start by double checking your network settings. Is it just the MSN site that you can't get to? I have included a link to a great networking site that has troubleshooting areas. That is weird that it just quit like that. Good luck!! http://www.practicallynetworked.com/

Not being able to Ping the base address of the router you are connected to is a problem. You should be able to open the router setup page at that IP address (http://192.168....).

Do you have a seperate router, or is it built into the modem? Some small local ISP's use these address to provide services also (and you are not seeing your Public IP address).

The first thing you need to do is power off the modem, router and the system for at least five minutes. Then power each up in turn, starting with the modem, and see if you still get the assigned IP address.
