Have a look in Add/Remove Programs for Microsoft Internet Explorer. Then select
the Add/Remove button you will have an option to retore original configuaration.
This should put back your original version of IE. Do that and restart the comp and
do a fresh install of IE6.0 SP1.

So what was you IE before v5.0?

Well I use Win98 I have IE6.0 on a CD no problem. When I wanted to upgrade to IE6.0
SP1 you download an small installation file from M$ and run that. This starts the
installation process but you need web access to download all the necessary files.
I use Dial-up so this process can take up to 1 hour.

I normally format and rebuild every 6 months. One time I lost my web connection and
so the process stopped. I got the connection back and it carried on downloading and
installed no problem. It downloads all the files to a folder in Windows.

So as I don't have this problem everytime I want to do a rebuild I burnt all the
files from this Windows folder to a CD. The next time I did a rebuild I put the CD
in and ran the setup. I got a message back you need to be connected to the internet
for additional files. I connected for a couple of minutes and it installed no problem.

Another way you can install IE6.0 SP1 is get some ones ISP installation CD. I use
BTinternet and on their later installation CD is IE6.0 SP1 so I don't need to download
anything now.

Check a few ISP's of your friends.

I have Explorer 5.5 in now, the problem is that the current Explorer 5.5 is causing error messages so I can't download anything at the present.

First of all,why not install Firefox? This will at least solve the download problem.I prefer it to IE anyway. Looking at another reply - why on Earth would anyone want to format and reload every 6 months? ME can run indefinitely surely.I'm coming up to 5 years with my installation , I run CrapCleaner and Diskeeper on shut down which I would recommend to everyone.

You do get problems occuring in Windows, I don't care what OS you are using and the
backup won't restore. Plus you get odd files appearing from the different apps you
install and that don't uninstall, so its easy just to format and reinstall. I'm lucky
at the moment its been 18 months since the last rebuild.

I dont' know if you've resolved your problem or not, but there are plenty of other
browsers to use besides IE. But IE should be functioning properly regardless, since
it's part of Windows. Many users have more than one browser installed that they use.

I do know that IE 5.5 is the original version installed with Windows ME. That's why
you can't go back to previous configuration. Furthermore, if you've never updated
it, you won't be able to run the repair tool. Download another browser to use and
see if you can get IE 6 downloaded and installed.
