My son uses a laptop for msn and overnight when we start up the computer it has no cursor. The screen also has the appearance of being in safe mode. I have tried a few things and I have managed to restore the cursor by using msconfig and diagnostic start up in safemode, however when I return to normal mode the cursor disappears and I'm now getting the message error in "c\windows\system\mmsystem.dll" Can anyone help ??

Unless the screen says Safe Mode in the four corners of the screen the computer isnt
in safe mode. Its more likely that the graphic drivers need updating and the lowest
screen resolution has been set as a default. Either delete the graphic adapter from
the hardware list and hope it (re) finds the drivers or reinstall the graphic drivers
from the CD

mmsystem.dll is used by Windows for playing sounds. Can you hear any sounds being
played with Windows Media Player?
