Desktop color problem

About a year ago i downloaded a picture of my 5 year old granddaughter holding her puppy Boxer on her lap and her Cockapo bird in her hand. My problem is the mess of color that i created for my desktop. I have tried everything i hoped would help to adjust the colors to no avail. The picture is O.K. as i have kept it as my desktop, but correcting the color image has been frustrating. The color adjust buttons on my monitor are not enough...HELP

You could try reinstalling the Driver for your Video Card. Also your Monitor may be going Bad. My Dad was having a Similar Problem with washed out blurry images on his old Monitor, and Santa brought him a New Monitor for Xmas.

Steve: Thank you for your advise of January 5, 2007 with regard to my Desktop color problem post where i sought help. I have tried to determine if the driver for the video card needs to be replaced, but am told in response (by my computer), that the driver is O.K. I just bought a new monitor some months ago. My problem started with my old monitor, which incidently, went totally black on me. So I bought this new one. I just got a new photo emailed to me in my Son`s computer from the same granddaughter. However, when moved to my computer, you guessed it, I get the mess of blurred smug and cannot fix it. But thanks, Steve, but do some hocus pocus and help me. Thanks......Elmoticky

Then it could also be the Video Card of the Computer is going bad. I would have someone who knows their way around a Computer look at it. Probably needs a on site inspection to help figure out what is wrong.

Steve: Again thanks for your post. You might have a valid description of my problem. However, i should have mentioned this previously. If I take any other photo from my picture file and transfer it to my desktop. Presto, the picture is perfectly clear. What`s up with that? I will take your advise and keep looking at what causes my problem. Oh and another thing. When i take a picture from my picture file (above), i do not download it as my Desktop, i just move it there. Get it?...Thanks STEVE..... Elmoticky

From your description I'm not sure what to make of that.:),,,,,,,,,,It can sometimes be hard to describe some Computer Problems in a Forum. That's why it would be good to have some else come over to Look at the Computer. To See maybe to Understand.

Steve, You obviously are correct on all points. After i posted my previous message to you,(check this out), i opened my picture file and moved one to display and sure enough, all my pictures are now smuggy and look just like my desktop that i have been complaining about. I should have done that before i posted my last message. Sorry. Now i will have to see about the driver or video card. Any suggestions? Thanks again, Elmoticky

Steve, today January 9, 2007 at approximately 5 p.m. my son sat at my computer and fixed my problem. It had nothing to do with the video card or the driver. He tinkered with the setting for a while until he found that color scale slider was not correct. As soon as he adjusted the slider to the correct scale, the images of everything looked like anything that i had seen before. Thanks STEVE. Elmoticky

I am having a similar problem. I set my colors to 16 bit, restart the computer and nothing. It does not save the settings. I have an e-machine about 5 years old and Windows ME. I cannot read e-mail, play grapic games etc. It was fine last week, closed out ok. Now nothing. Help!

Laurel: I got the message that you posted with reference to Desktop color problem. Gee Laurel, I read your message to your problem to be different from the one I had. You see, my only problem was with the color on my screen-wallpaper. The color was all fuzzy and uneven. All it took was an adjustment of the color setting of the color scale. Now, as i understand your problem, you are having perhaps a different reaction from your PC. All i can tell you from what i read in your post is that i would begin with a system-restore. Back date your restore one week, since you say that it was O.K. then. If that fails, try a full computer scan followed by a live-update. Maybe a small click that you made now interfers. Good luck

I did try a system restore. But I only had the one I was in on 1/27, nothing further back. I know I have done this before with a different problem? Cannot virus scan either. Help so frustrating.

Laurel: First let assume that you can connect to the internet. If so, do you have internet security? if so click the internet security icon on your desktop. I know, i know, you say that you cannot run a scan. When the internet security window opens, click Norton anti-virus and the scan window will open, click scan. If you cannot do that, than type the words scan my computer at top of window. The reason you want to do this is to find out if your pc is infected. You will find out with a scan and can delete the infected files or whatever is wrong. The fact that you are unable to back up further than 1/27 for a system restore is a sign that maybe your pc is indeed infected. But that is nothing to really worry about. We all fall into that trap once in a while. If you have further questions. please do not hesitate to reply.....Elmoticky
