problem after update download-Presario 2200

I ran a series of downloads about a week ago after running a search on windows and
evaluating those they suggested and followed through.
My problem is I have lost the display on my machine ..a signal that says"no video
input" on my moniter....even after attaching an add on Sceptre monitor.
I know from all too familiar sounds during bootup that the computer is booting up
and responding to commands such as password and somw keybord shortcuts....eg windows
key and alt-cntrl-delete.
Placing a CD in also spins the CD but with an audio cd I get no sound....I do not
know without display how to initiate programs such as players.
Where can I go from here with this.

Are you referring to Windows ME updates? There are no longer updates put out for
ME and won't be new updates put out. Try restoring a registry backup.
You'll need a ME startup diskette (boot disk). If you don't have one, you can create
one on another PC.
If you don't have access to another ME machine, a 98 startup disk will work, or download
a ME boot disk image and create one on another system: Bootdisk.com
To create a disk: Get a blank floppy diskette, go into Add/Remove programs. Click
Startup Disk tab, then stick the floppy disk in drive and choose Create disk. Then
boot with the startup disk in the floppy drive.
At the A:\> prompt, type: C: scanreg /restore then press Enter. Choose a backup
with the word Started, dated before this happened. Follow the prompts to restore
the backup.
You should get a message that Windows successfully restored the registry. Then CTRL_ALT_DEL
to get back into Windows. It's worth a try.

Thank you for your reply...
my dilema now is I cannot proceed further without a functioning display; is there
any option to performing these tasks "blind" eg..only utilizing the keyboard...

I forgot about the display even though it's the main problem. No, not that I know
of. It sounds like you need someone to check things out for you.
