WinME Restart Problem!

Hello, I have WinME. Everytime I start my computer, windows starts up, loads and then for about 10 secs to 2 minutes my pc is fine and then it freezes. I'm 99.9% sure I don't have any viruses/spyware. I had Norton Antivirus/Firewall updated before this started. Restarting in Safemode does the same thing. What else could this be? Does it have to do with RAM? Suggestions?

Firstly try the advice I have posted in the following thread, to restore an earlier
version of your system files, as they may have simply been corrupted:

If the above doesn't work, you might have a hardware fault, or a virus, or simply
a bad installation of Norton AntiVirus or of a firewall.

As the problem also occurs in SAFE MODE it cannot be a peripheral device at fault.
The device drivers for your peripheral hardware devices (printer, scanner, CD-ROM,
etc) are not loaded in SAFE MODE. So it is relatively unlikely to be a hardware problem.

It could be caused by your AntiVirus program loading automatically on bootup. Look
in the BIOS (press DEL during startup) and disable the AntiVirus program from running
automatically on boot-up.

What programs do you have in your Start Up folder? Go to START > PROGRAMS > STARTUP
and delete or move them all, so that nothing is loading automatically from there.

There are DOS-based programs you can use that will test your RAM memory chips for
faults. You need to establish what type of RAM you have, and then look on the manufacturer's
website for any diagnostic programs they can supply.

With Windows loaded, quickly press CTRL, ALT and DEL to open the program manager
box and see what programs you have running. If there is a virus program running,
it may show up there.

There may be other things to try too, but start with the above.
