How do I prevent someone from deleting the history files from IE6 & can they be recovered?

How do you prevent someone from deleting IE6 history files? When the History is
deleted (e.g. through Tools, Internet Options, Clear History, or by opening the History
panel and deleting the 'day' shown), is that data still held in a file somewhere
on the hard drive? Is there some type of program that I can install that will send
a copy of all the history files to my email account? THANKS, RW

If the person you are trying to spy on is an adult, you have no right to see they're
browsing history secretly, no matter whether a husband/boyfriend or wife/girlfriend.
If you don't trust them, spying on them is not going to improve the situation. If
your subject is an underage child, research and purchase appropriate parental control
software and advise the child that it's on the computer because they'll find out
soon enough that it has been installed anyway.

Thank you 4 your reply Larry. No the person is not a adult it is my teenager who
all of a sudden keeps deleting the history files after he has been on the computer.
We have talked about this but he still keeps deleting the files!!! I know all about
parental control software but all of the ones I have looked at are very restrictive
& I didn't want to go that far as locking him out of the computer! I had parental
software installed on our computer from the time he was 7 yrs. old until he got about
13. I thought having a honest discussion with him about the do's & don'ts of using
the computer he had learned & would abide by my rules BUT I GUESS NOT!!! So yes I
will have to put parental control software back onto our computer! In the future
please do not play judge & jury with your sermon about spying on people I think most
people who use this site are adults or are very computer savvy & they know all about
how to buy software to spy on someone if that's what they are all about! If you
are going to take the time to answer someones post we can do without the lecture
about morals & right or wrong! I just wanted to know how I could let my son know
that if he kept deleting the history files I had a way of checking where he has been.
To let him know that don't even think about surfing sites he knows I wouldn't approve
of! We have had this open discussion but I guess teenagers will be teenagers & they
still try & test the water where they know they don't belong! THANK YOU, RW

Reg key to grey out Clear History.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel
If you get to the Microsoft key folder and don't see keys for Internet Explorer\Control
Panel, you'll need to add Internet Explorer as a subkey of Microsoft and Control
Panel as a subkey of Internet Explorer.
Go into the Control Panel key folder and create a new DWORD value (REG_DWORD).
Name it History. Right-click the History value and choose Modify. Change the data
from 0 to 1.

Your welcome. Greying out the Clear History Button worked on My Sisters Teen, I also
removed the Run Box afterwards, to make regedit harder to get to. It's easy to add,
and remove Run Box, but most Kids don't realize where the feature is at, or know
how to use Google to find directions to get it back. If the Teen is pretty good with
a Computer then none of this will really work.
