security icon at left of clock on tray

When i start my computer, the security icon at the
left of clock on my screen does not display. I cannot do certain tasks without it.
To display it i have to open up the symatech norton security window. There i see
the my personal firewall and
intrusion detection are off. I click the turn-on button and restart my computer.
sometimes i get
lucky and the icon displays on the tray. But most of the time i have to repeat that
process several times. This gives me another problem. My computer than hangs, causing
me to manually restart my computer. Story short, what`s the deal?anyone.....Thanks

Malware can cause AV software to act up. Also you may just try to reinstall Norton
if you don't think you have any Malware problems. A friend of mine had some Norton
Problems a couple weeks ago, and I went over to help her. I just reinstalled the
Program, and that seemed to fix the problem.

Steve: Thanks for your advise with my security icon problem. I did not mention in
my post that i am using a 2005 version of symantec norton internet security. Your
advise about possible malware is clearly not my problem. Once i capture
the icon after repeated restarts of my computer all
is fine. I just hate not getting it on first start of the
computer. I will however, make sure that i replace
my 2005 version with the newest version. i have only about two months left on this
one.
Thanks alot Steve i did not expect a miracle with my old security. It is still working
fine however.

Just reinstall 2005. When I reinstalled Norton on my friends computer, I didn't update
to the new version. I just reinstalled the same version she was using. It only took
about 10 minutes, including updating the definitions again.
