Linksys adapter and USB support in ME?

A friend recently moved and now has the ability to get highspeed internet. Her computer is an HP6380 I think, but regardless its running WinME. I'm wanting to buy her a new USB mouse, a webcam, and a Linksys ethernet adapter card (wired). I hoping someone knows if ME will work well with the Linksys adapter, and does ME support Plug-n-Play operation with USB devices? I mean, she's not exactly Miss Computer Genius, so is the adapter will work, excellent. For the USB devices, we can install the software and then plug in the device and they should work fine. Just looking for any added info here.... Thanks Chip

You need drivers, look on the box, does it work with ME or not... it will be listed
if it does.

Unlike Windows 98, which required external (third party) driver files for some USB
devices, Windows ME has built-in support for USB.

You simply plug the USB device into a USB port while Windows ME is running, and it
will auto-detect the device and install the correct drivers for it. Microsoft included
all the necessary USB drivers in Win ME.

Don't look on the box to find a device that includes driver files for Windows ME,
because these are only necessary for Win 98SE. You simply won't find any USB devices
sold with drivers for Win ME, because third party (i.e. non-Microsoft) drivers are
not needed. The required drivers are already present in your Windows folder.

What you might see on the box is a note that the device is "useable with Win98/ME/2000/XP"
(or something to that effect), but drivers - if any - will be supplied only for Windows
98.

However, USB 2.0 devices will require a USB 2.0 port in order to function, in which
case you would have to install a PCI Card providing USB 2.0 ports (at a cost of $15)
if you only have USB 1.1 ports on your motherboard.
