Hi. Thank you for looking at this thread. I am trying to format Windows ME. I have
start up disk and windows Me cd. When I go to MSdos to format c:, it says "bad command
or file name". My exact command is "a:/format c:". what is wrong and how can i
format my hard drive?
Thank you again for looking and helping.

You're close...just eliminate the slash. At the a:> prompt type: "format c:" (without
quotes of course). Make sure to include the space after "format".

I do not type any slash, slash is part of prompt in MS Dos that comes up itself.
my only command is "format c:" (ofcourse without quotes).

There shouldn't be a slash, the prompt should have a pointer like > after the a:
Make sure you're at the root of the "a" drive by typing cd\ (cd backslash) and hit
enter. This means to change directory. Do it till you get to a:> then type in the
format c: and hit Enter.

Silly question but do you have Format.com on the boot disk?
If you have then when it boots up and comes to A:> just type Format C: then
enter.
Does your boot disk have CD Rom drivers?
