I don't know what has happened, but when I start my computer before it opens windows
it goes to the black screen where it asks you if you want to open in norma, safe mode
,and two others, I always choose normal, but it does it everytime now when I turn
on computer. Also, after opening windows, my local disk folder opens. And I have
noticed if my computer does not shut down correctly when I turn it back on, it does
not do the scan disk. Any help would be appreciated....Thank you in advance......

First of all, you do not say when your problem started. If it started just recently,
say three or four days ago, I would first go with a system restore. Set your back
date to the day when everything was working O.K. I would think other readers would
like to know just when this problem started. good luck. Elmoticky

Check MSCONFIG settings to see if you have the boot menu option selected. I think
that's an option in ME, but I may be wrong.

This may not be a real problem, just a setting somewhere.

You have three seperate problems here!
First, you have accidentally turned on the startup menu. This setting is controlled
by the file MSDOS.SYS which is a hidden and system file located at C:\MSDOS.SYS
To edit it easily, prepare a .BAT batch file containing the following lines -
C:
CD \WINDOWS\COMMAND
ATTRIB -R -H -S C:\MSDOS.SYS
EDIT C:\MSDOS.SYS
ATTRIB +R +H +S C:\MSDOS.SYS
I recommend the following setting in the [options] section -
BootMenu=0
Second, I don't recognise the local disk folder problem, so can't help with
that.
Third, the ScanDisk problem. Open the System Configuration Utility, by going
to:
START > RUN
then typing MSCONFIG and clicking on "OK". Go to the "General" tab,
click on "Advanced", and unclick the box marked "Disable Scandisk
after bad shutdown".
