new router; internet won't connect

Hi, I just bought a new wireless router, which is properly configured, and works with an XP laptop wirelessly, and a 2000 desktop through ethernet. for some reason my ME desktop will not connect to the internet. it is not a hardware problem; i actually tried a linux bootable cd on it and it connected. i have never heard of a router having system requirements, so i am pretty confident that the problem lies somewhere in my ME configuration. the router is this one here: http://www.buffalo-technology.com/products/wireless/wireless-g-125-high-speed/wireless-g-125-high-speed-broadband-router-and-access-point/ also, i used to have a netgear wired router which worked fine with this computer. can any of you ME experts help me out here? thanks, Nick
