Win ME keeps 5 backup registries already. Google will lead you to more info.

Windows ME and 98 have their own registry backup utility, so you don't need another
program. Windows backs up your registry, and the system INI files, once a day on
boot. That's as long as ScanRegistry is in your startup as it should be.
There are 5 backups by default. You can also back it up manually... Start | Run,
then type: SCANREGW. Select YES when prompted to create a backup.
To Restore a backup, Go to Start | Run type: SCANREGW /restore press Enter.
It will show the date and time they were created. A good backup will have the word
"Started" before it. Choose a date prior to this problem. Then hit Enter.

Try:
An oldie, but a goodie.....
This simple batch file backs up your registry to a new folder as well as 6 system
files.
This batchfile also creates another batchfile
called fixit.bat, so if something happens, you can boot to MS-DOS, and simply type
fixit (without the quotes) and it'll restore your registry and system files. It also
puts a restore.txt file in there so you can do it manually if you're so inclined.
:-)
