Firewall

Can anyone recommend a free firewall, that is compatible with Windows ME? I've had to change from Highstream to PeoplePC, and my current firewall, Agnitum Outpost (www.agnitum.com) is acting up. I keep getting an alert HTTPS (TCP:443). I don't seem to be able to figure out how to configure Outpost to relieve this situation. Could it be that I have not removed Highstream from my system yet? I wanted to wait until I know that PeoplePC is running properly (which it seems to be at this point). Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

What's type of alert are you getting? Is it an outgoing alert, when you try to sign
in to an acct., or what are you doing when you get the alert?

HTTPS (TCP:443) is the port used for "secure web browser communication."

It allows access to Secure websites, like logging in to your Bank acct., Hotmail,
etc.

Here's a link to an Outpost forum, which may be of help. Outpost is a good firewall,
so I wouldn't give it up that easily.

Most everyone on this forum has their own personal favorite software firewall that they swear is the "best". Mine is ZoneAlarm. I've tried most of the others too but have stuck with ZA over many years. The newest versions of ZA work only with Win2K or XP, but the older releases that are Win9X compatible can be found at oldversion.com. Scroll down to find ZA at the bottom left. The last release that supports Win9X is 6.1.744 but the release before (6.0) is fine too.

Carol J., Thank you for the advice. I'm following up on your suggestions. I get the warning after I sign in to my new ISP, PeoplePC, and try to move, to do anything, from the home page. I'll be checking further on the Outpost forum. John

You're welcome, John. You should be able to choose Allow (or Deny), so your firewall can create a new rule.
