My 12 yo daughter, fancies the digital camera, and couple days ago took a 30 sec
clip of my 7 yo son swiming on his own for 1st time. I tryed to view the clip in
MP v9 but all I got was the sound.
What did I do wrong?

Sounds like you don't have the video codec installed for .mov files.
Try doing a Google for VLC Player. It's free and I've heard it plays .mov files.
You may still need the video codec but try installing VLC Player first see if it
cures the problem.

Special-K
Thanks for your advise, I downloaded the file VLC-0.8.6b-win32 from Download.com.
When I tryed to install it, gave me a fatal error. I then went back to Google and
found the actual VLC Web site talking about some bugs they found with that version
and they had an update. I must have clicked on an old link in Google. Thank you
for your quick response, I never expected anyone to answer so quickly within 2 hrs
of when I posted. I have always been able to find HELP here. Thank you, Special-K
and Annoyances.org!

Special-K or anyone that knows about VLC,
I thought all was well, but now my WMP9 is not playing some of the video clips online.
What did I trip on?

No media player will play *every* format of video file!
Windows Media Player version 9 comes with video codecs that play that type of WMV
(Windows Media Video) files, i.e. WMV version 9 files. But it will not, for example,
play WMV version 10 video files.
You cannot play WMV version 10 files using Windows Media Player 9. The files are
deliberately designed to be incompatible with WMP 9, as a marketing ploy to try to
force you to buy WMP 10, a program which cannot be run on Win ME. That, in turn,
is a marketing ploy to try to force you to upgrade to Win XP.
You may be better off playing video files in VLC Player, even though it is not ideal
for use with Windows ME. A good alternative is to install Media Player Classic, which
is 100% compatible with Win ME.
To play a wider range of video files, you can try installing a lot more video codecs,
by installing a Codec Pack (search at www.google.com for "Codec Pack"). But be warned:
installing a codec pack can cause problems that you may not be equipped to solve,
because codecs can conflict, both with each other and with those already installed
in your computer.
