i was just given a gateway computer with windows 2000 professional, i did a clean install with windows me, the only os i have. and now the there is no color, only 16 total, it went from 32 bit to 4 bit. and under the add new hardware wizard, there are problems with pci card pci multimedia audio device pci system management bus pci univeral serial bus it says these are installed but have a problem.and the drivers are not installed? i was given no software for this, and direct draw support is also not possible with the current display drivers? i dont know what to do or where to look for a solution my bios ver is p4i65b bios p1.10 if this helps? would appreciate any help. was wondering if i have to find the software for this model,? and i dont see a model number on the pc, the monitior # is fpd1570? any help would be greatly appreciated. joe zark

You would get the missing drivers from the Manufacture web site. Sound, and Video Drivers are where to start, maybe the motherboard Drivers too. Ask the people who gave you the computer if they know the model. Running a System Audit Utility like Belarc Advisor might tell you something also.

Like Steve said you need all the appropriate drivers. The System Configuration Utility
that Steve mentioned may not correctly identify a specific hardware if the driver
is not installed. You may need to actually open the PC.

A long shot but you may contact Gateway for the drivers. I did it once with HP and
they pointed me to the right website. Just curious, why did you wipe out the Windows
2000? It's like you're already in heaven but went to hell instead.

i had no idea i was in heaven, and i realize it now, i thought windows me & windows 2000 profesional, were the same year? or came out around the same time.? i wish i hadnt done what i did, but its done, i used a disc utility and it told me that intel is the mother board the video chip is also intel 865g graphics chip accelerated vga bios. im not connected to the interent , with that pc, i wanted to use it for graphics, mostly and video, and like i said only have 16 colors, i tried to down load the drivers from intels site onto a floppy, and they are too large? and this pc has a cd/dvd burner, but i dont kow how to use it, maybe i should stay away from all computer os settings. and somehow, i created a E: DRIVE that i cant get rid of so now i have A: C: D: E: so i dont know how that happened? but the utility info program told me, that my problems now are the 1.pci/agp device intel corp. ac' 97 audio controller 2.pci/agp intel corp usb 2.0 ehci controller 3.pci/agp broadcom corp bcm v.9x 56k modem the motherboard says intel corp bios version: ami bios 080010 for intel chipset vendor : intel corp video chip 82865g integrated graphics device so can i just buy windows 2000 nt professional somwhere, and make all this go away? all these numbers and names, i really wish i would have left the whole thing alone now. thanks for all your help and advice joe zarkie

You have to install Drivers after any install of Windows, doesn't matter what OS you install, they don't have all the various Drivers that are needed. . If you have two Cd roms on the Computer, then one is probably the E drive. You might go buy a USB thumb Drive to help get data to the Computer, better yet find a neighborhood geek to help. This type problem is pretty easy for someone who knows a a bit about computers.

i only have one cd rom on my pc that has only 16 colors...the d: drive in now the e: drive and the d: drive says it is using ms-dos compatibility mode file system, and when i try to click on it to see whats in it, it says "would you like to format the d: drive". i just want my cd rom back to d: the way it was....i found my drivers on intels web site, and i copied them on a floppy, and none would fit, so i tried to copy on 3 floppys and it woundnt work, then i tried to copy them onto a cd, and it copied, but my computer wont read them in fact the cd rom just keeps, blinking(the light). i also opened up my pc, witht he 16 colors and the only wording i could find was.. ASROCK AGP8X P4I65G PRESCOTT 800 DUAL CHANNEL DDR 400 ROHS FSB800 SATA USB2.0 5.1 CH i might just have to take it somewhere, the entire thing acts like a old dos pc, wont take much of any programs. can i go buy windows 2000 profesional nt some where? and would that have all the drivers? or windows xp? or other? and MY BIOS VERSION IS AMI BIOS 080010 FOR INTEL. maybe i can just take it to best buy? a friend took their pc there to get fixed, and cost them $80. but i want to exhaust all ,my resources first. do they make a large floppy that can hold more than the 1.44mb? thanks again for all your help and advice joe so my problem is getting the drivers from one pc to the one that has the problems, besides having only 16 colors it has no audio and the modem isnt configured right.

You can get the Drivers at the Asrock web site. "ASRock P4i65G" that is the model number. Chances are the Video Driver, Sound Card Driver, Motherboard Drivers, Network card Drivers, Modem Drivers, will all be there if the model number you posted was correct.

Sounds like you are in over your head though. Installing Windows can be daunting for some. I would install XP myself, but when done You will still need to install a few Drivers. Windows can't always have all the Drivers for millions of Hardware combinations that PC's come in.

steve i didnt know asrock had a site...thanks for all your help and support, i really do appreciate your time. i am in over my head, my old pc blew up, (go figure) back in 2001 when i had windows me on it, and that is the newest os i have, and so when i got this pc from a friend, i assumed, windows 2000 profesional nt, was the same or at least same year as windows me, once this is fixed i wont be messing with any internal settings again, again thanks for all your help. joe zarkie
