Can the full version of windows ME be installed on top of windows 95 without first
installing windows 98 as an intermediate stage?

Use a Boot disk to get rid of 95, with Fdisk, and format. Then do a fresh install of ME.

It's not a good idea generally, but if you had no other way to go about the upgrade, you could. I agree with the advice to perform a clean install. Window95 underneath WinME makes for a terrible combination. Windows95, as an OS, is a poor foundation for upgrading to another Windows.

Steve,

Thanks. But would going through windows 95, then windows 98, as an update, and finally
ME be better?

Kiwi,

Thanks. What if a clean install was performed, i.e. erase w95 and then install WME.
Then no w95 as the foundation.

I will include my usual link to PC-911. Follow those steps and you'll have the best beginning to WinME, assuming an overwhelming reason to use any of the Win9xes exists (I prefer Win2000, still, over all other versions).
