I seem to have picked up Malwarealarm and when I searched here for help I got two
links, XosftSpySE, which appeared to be a free application until after downloading
and running a scan that found 14 severe to low threat items. Then I learn that I
would have to pay $39.00 to continue with the removal of all these threats. The
other link is for Spyhunter, but before I download it and run a scan I would like
to know if anyone here has tried it(is it going to also find several real baddies
and then tell me it will cost to remove them). I'm not adverse to paying for useful
software, and have many times to date but I like to be informed up front, I feel
I was misled by the XoftSpySE site info and it looks a lot like it might be the same
kind of thing going on at Spyhunter.

Avoid especially SpyHunter like the plague and I wouldn't recommend that Xoftspy
either. Both have been on the Rogue software list.

Follow these instr. Bleeping Computer is a very reputable security related forum.

OK, but do get rid of those two programs I mentioned, and good luck. As always, Spybot
SnD is a good app to have and may have cleaned up some of it. Btw, there's a new
version out now, 1.5.

To help prevent future malware infections, Stop using IE as your main browser.
Switch to a more secure, less malware prone browser as your main browser. IE is extremely
vulnerable to malware infections.

Firefox and Opera are recommended alternatives by security experts. Additionally,
use a HOSTS file. See the link below for more info.

Thanks justme, but I'm having two problems with SpySweeper, one: after going through the first two steps of downloading the install file(why 2 steps anyway?), it tells me it can't be installed on my computer because of the operating system I am using(that would be Windows ME). two: it very closely resembles the above mentioned fixes that fail to mention whether there is a cost or not to eradicate any bugs it may find. (not to mention those were actually malware themselves) Apparently I can't get to that point with it anyway. Again, thanks for posting, I'm just getting a bit jaded with all of this malware stuff, I think I need to take a break from the internet, maybe stop all together. Jim
