nero 7 software with lite-on dvd c lh52c1p

after 4 days. i got a email from nero concerning the software that dont support windows
95/98/me.
they sent me nero 7.2 software to download & install, it stopped in the middle of
installing, and i emailed the tech, he said it was corrupt. try this link, it didnt
work either, gave me another link, and this time it worked, but
he told me to enter in my serial number from the nero 7 essentials software that
came with the dvd rom, it has no serial number/s
its in a plain white cd envelope that reads "not for resale, bundled for hardware
sale"
so now i have emailed him 3 times for a serial number or another software version,
and no reply again.
and its frustrating when you buy something and cant use it. now i will have to wait
till next week when they reply back. and i really wanted to keep this. and the minute
i take i t out, i will have a email with the software or serial numbers i need.
to ANYONE OUT THERE THE lite-on dvd c lh52c1p
SAYS WINDOWS ME/98 2E COMPATIBLE ON THE BOX, BUT IT DONT TELL YOU THE SOFTWARE INSIDE
IS NOT.
this may be true for other hardware out there.
but lite on has sent me no reply and nero is slow to act.
never have i gotten such bad support from anywhere and here these 2 companys are
bundled together.this is a joke. glad i only paid $25 for this thing. i admit i was
surprised to see the manufact..date july 2007, and the words.. windows 98/me on the
box. should have known.

The Rom itself should work in all versions of Windows. But DVD Movie playback, and
CD Burning you do need the right software. Try the Free VLC Media Player for playing
DVD Movies. Free CD Burning Software can be found on the Internet with Google.
My
favorite Burning Software for Windows ME is Nero 6.6, but it is about 50 to 60 bucks,
maybe cheaper with a bit of online shopping. I thought Nero 7 was a bit buggy, and
dumped it.

thanks for the advice. i have gotten more help on here than nero or lite-on it .
i finally got 4 emails from lite-on it today, and they all said the same thing,
we no longer service windows 95/98/me
and after i explained my self, the email was written in broken english, which im
guessing got sent to another country.
i sent them back a angry email. i would have never ever bought this if it had not
said, windows 98/me/ vista.
and i didnt even think about the software inside being from another company, nero,
who i actually never heard of, nor lite-on it. but these two companys are bundled
together as a joke, i still cant believe im waiting for a serial number. and was
left hanging. after 2 previous downloads they finally sent me one that works, and
they think their precious nero 7, came with a serial number with lite-on dvd, and
im trying to explain to them it didnt. just a plain white cd envelope that reads
not for resale. believe me i looked for it.
i sent 10 emails to different nero support lines, and more than that to lite-on it.
and i cant believe they sent me a email that actually says
WE NO SERVICE WINDOWS ME OR WINDOWS 98. NEITHER DOES MICROSOFT GOOD DAY"
duhhhh. i think everyone knows that, what i cant understand is why lite-on it woud
manufacture a dvd rom for windows 98/me, with a manufacturers dates of july 2007
on the box.? and still not reply back or give any help?
and i should have known!!! there was 2 other of these on the store shelf both had
been opened before and looked like they were returned to the store. why didnt i realize
it. thanks again for the advice.

I have a pretty new LiteOn LH-20A1P DVD Burner in a ME puter, and the Windows Drivers
for the Rom work fine. Windows recognized it with no problems. ME does have some
limitations due to Fat 32 File system in that you can't use single Files over 4 Gigs.
As long as I stay away from the Video Files that are over 4 gigs in size the Burner
works OK.

well no windows me drivers are working on my lite-on player. i tried every free dvd
playing software. and burner. and every program gives my players name and model number
. but never is able to write to it not even audio, nor play dvds?
and my old lite on cd rom, was at least able to record audio images videos and just
could not play dvds?
so i have no support no drivers. and the new dvd rom is able to read the movie
titles and the movie maker..mgm, paramount, ect.
nothing happens when i push play.
and i though for sure it would at least play on some of the free dvd software out
there. so it has to be the drivers or it needs a specific one?
and every time i put a cd in it to even try to record audio, it says either the disc
is full, (when its not it brand new) or else it has a problem reading from the player.?
but every software program detects it, and spells out its name and model number?
so it wants to play and wants to record, but just needs a push, thats why after the
3rd software download nero sent me. it took, but then they said for me to ennter
my serial numbers to make it permanent on my pc.
and they think i got serial numbers bundled with my lite on hardware and their software.
and i cant even make it temp on my pc?

Your problems are not related to the Roms Drivers, or you couldn't even find the
Device in My Computer. To Play DVD movies you need DVD Playback software. To Burn
a DVDR or CDR you need Burning Software.
If You can't copy a CD to the Hard
Drive, or the Rom won't Read a CD then the problems would either be a Windows Problem,
or a Defective Rom. On average I find about 10 percent of new Hardware Defective
right out of the Box.

the dvd rom is in my device manager, it has it listed name and model?
and every free cd/dvd software i downloaded detects it and calls it by name and model
number?
and when i put a movie in, dvd interface pops up, that i have never seen before,
and has the movie title and the maker of the dvd...mgm. sony..paramount, ect
and when i push play nothing happens?
and only one free cd/dvd program i have downloaded had written to blank cd'd that
i tried so it write, reads cd audio or software. and im sure i need the drivers that
are on the nero software that wont work for windows me?
also when i try ms dvdplayer.exe. i get a window that says " to use the dvd player
you need to install either a software dvd decoder or a hardware dvd decoder for more
info click help"?
so like i said why would every burner/player software detect my dvd/cd rom, and only
one has been able to write to it. none can play dvds on it. so im thinking the nero
7 essetials software says DRIVERS/ SOFTWARE/MANUELS
on it? the thing acts like it wants to play it just needs a push or something minor?
and still no help from nero, and lite-on keeps sending me emails that says they dont
support windows 98/me and its as if they dont believe me that i just purchased this
last week, and it says on the outer bix, like i keep telling them OS REQUIREMENSTS
WINDOWS 98/SE/WINDOWS ME/WINDOWS VISTA
and nero still thinks there software came packaged with a serial number.
they sent me nero 7 demo, and the tech only said to make it permanent on my machine,
to use my serial numbers that came with my software.
and i keep telling them no serial numbers are written no where. only " not for resale
bundled with hardware only"
and then the software lists everything that this cd kit includeds....
thanks for your help and advice.

Uninstall all the stuff you installed so far related to DVD Play Back, and install
VLC Media Player from Link. Then uninstall all the Burning Software you have installed,
and find a Trial Copy of Nero 6.6, and try it. If none of this works then return
the Rom you bought for replacement.

thanks, does nero 6.6 need a serial number? thats all i wanted from nero or lite
on was some support, and it seems like maybe they have none?
also do you know anything about a second cd/rom? my old one, which was also a lite-on
writer, i connected to the new lite on dvd cd rom. and i have it connected on the
secondary ide as the slave device, the newer dvd rom is also on the secondary ide,
as master.
but the old lite-on cd rom, the light barely comes on, and the door of it wont open,?
do i need to configure it some how into my system? drive letter? and settings somewhere?
partition?
i definately see both cd roms, loading, when the pc starts up. but only the newer
dvd cd rom, works like my old one, and the old one, like i said barely can see the
green light and the door wont open on it?
could my pc not be capable of having 2 cd drives?
i did change the jumper settings 2nd/ slave cd rom, and i just wonder why i see
both players when the pc startup and loads. but when i went into bios, there was
only the new one listed?
im going to download the nero 6.6. now thanks alot.

The Trial version of Nero won't need a serial number, but won't work for more then
30 days. This is just a test to see if the DVD Burner works. I know Nero 6.6 works
good with Windows ME, so if it doesn't work then either your Burner is broken, or
Windows ME itself may be messed up.

nero finally sent me the serial # for the nero 7 essentials software, actually 2
different techs sent me 2 different serial #'s.
i installed the software again, the dvd rom played, but there was poping noise in
the back ground, and the player started to play real slow. and when i clicked on
the nero drive speed, it started to speed up, and got distorted.?
i looked at the device manager, and clicked on the dvd rom, its using a old microsoft
driver dated june 2000? i dont know if that matters?
and when my pc starts up and loads, it says
PRI MASTER....IDE HARD DISK
SEC MASTER ...ATAPI CD ROM
SEC SLAVE.......
and when it gets to sec slave it pauses for a few seconds?
then it says
PRI MASTER ....ST320410A 3.34 ULTRA DMA MODE S.M.A.R.T CAPABLE BUT DISABLED.
and now when i try microsofts dvdpayer.exe. it says
ERROR UNABLE TO PLAY DVD VIDEO CLOSE SOME PROGRAMS &THEN TRY AGAIN.
i guess it could be a number of things? maybe my display adapter driver is old?
or display adapter?
but i saw alot of reviews for nero 7, and seems like alot of people said it had alot
of flaws/bugs?
i havent downloaded nero 6.6 yet, but i did download that other dvd download vgl?
or something like that? and when i try to play, my camera comes onto the screen?
maybe thats interfering? do you know what the last version of windows me is? or how
do i know if i have a full version or upgrade version?
thanks alot

Any DVD player that costs only $25 is going to be less compatible with older operating
systems, such as WinME, than a more expensive player.
And very few hardware vendors will bother to provide any worthwhile support for operating
systems prior to Win XP.
The prudent way to proceed would be to look for a player that comes with a user recommendation
from someone who has actually used the player with WinME.
Here's a link I chanced across recently, which identifies some problems that users
have experienced with Liteon DVD players/recorders, and which makes some suggestions
about DVD hardware: The
Mausoleum club org uk
The link is also helpful in identifying solutions to problems encountered with DVD
discs recorded with consumer equipment.

after many emails later, nero finally sent me the s/n for the nero 7 essentials software
which they sent me to download, and it works great. no conflicts, the only thing
it did that i didnt like, was take over every media file and program, now when i
put a cd audio in my cd/dvd rom, nero opens up, no longer does windows media player
open. and nero support also sent me nero 8 to download, and told me to use the same
serial numbers for nero 7? but i doubt windows me, can handle nero 8. i heard alot
of bad things about nero 7. reviews and such, but i have to say its working excellent
with windows me, excellent video quality, excellent audio, no skipping or pausing
ever since i checked, DMA in the propertys list under device manager. thanks for
all the support and emails i got from everyone on here.
