I/E redirect to same page everytime url is entered

I just cleaned out and reformatted my parents computer. I installed a new ethernet
card because the old one didnt have the correct drivers etc etc. I installed the
new card w/o problem and loaded the driver. When I open I/E the home page is set
to http://www.att.net No matter what I type I will always be redirected to att.net
I have no problem surfing the information on their page put once you type in google
or yahoo or anything else (the bar on the top of the window says Eguide -Microsoft
Internet Explorer) and then I am redirected to att.net and the URL -is displayed
on the top of the window in the bar.
I called bellsouth they said that my computer had a hijacker on it. However, the
computer is clean, I ran norton and nothing came up. I dont know what to do at this
point. I tried to search if Eguide is a type of spyware or similar but I didnt have
any luck. Any ideas as to the problem?

Your computer has been hijacked.
Read this thread, and follow the suggestions made in it -

It sounds like all you may have done is install Windows over the top of itself, and
that is why the Malware is still on the Computer. Norton really won't catch Hijackers.
I would suggest you register at one of the Malware removal Forums for Help. It takes
quite a few steps to clean up a Browser Hijacker these days.

One of the Google results that comes up during a search for Eguide is a search engine,
which isn't uncommon for hijackers.
Disregard the link Ed posted, since that's very outdated advice. You should register
and post on a malware support forum for expert advice. They'll know the appropriate
steps to take.
Either go through these preliminary cleaning steps, or register on one of the other
forums listed below. They specialize in malware infection removal.

Tip: Tohelp prevent future malware infections, Stop using IE as your main browser.
Switch to a more secure, less malware prone browser as your main browser. IE is extremely
vulnerable to malware infections.
Firefox and Opera are recommended alternatives by security experts. Additionally,
use a HOSTS file. See the link below for more info.

If that is truly what has happened, the solution is -
1. Obtain your Product key.
To obtain the product key at the DOS prompt, type the following commands at the C:>
prompt, one command per line, press enter after typing each line -
PATH=A:;C:;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND
FIND "ProductKey" C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.DAT > C:\ProductKey.txt
2. Boot the computer to DOS with an emergency boot disk from http://www.bootdisk.com
3. In DOS, delete the folder C:\WINDOWS
4. Switch off. Insert the WinME installation CD, then Reboot and redo the installation
of Windows ME
