Cant copy to disc

I thought I was good with computers but I cant save My Document files or other files
to disc. I am getting an access denied error. I went to the Network Icon in Settings
and adjusted the access appropriately. I also made sure Sharing was set for My Documents.
This is my mothers computer and I want to upgrade from ME to Office Pro. I need
to save her files and I cant copy them to disc. Any help would be appreciated as
her computer stinks.

ME is an Operating System, Office Pro is a Microsoft Office software.
So it won't allow you to save to a floppy disc or flash drive either?

If you are copying the files to a 3.5 inch floppy disk in drive A: try opening the
write-protect slider on the floppy disk.
If you are copying the files to a flash drive plugged into a USB port, open the device
manager (go to START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > SYSTEM and click on the "Device
Manager" tab). Make sure the USB port is working, i.e. that there is not a question
mark or exclamation mark against it in the Device Manager screen.
Make sure that you are not using a USB 2.0 flash disk in a USB port that is rated
USB 1.1 only. USB 2.0 devices cannot be used in USB 1.1 ports (unless the device
is clearly marked as compatible with both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0).
Make sure that the file you are trying to copy is not in use by some other program.
Close the other program before trying to copy the file.
If none of the above solves your problem, post here the EXACT WORDING of the error
message you are seeing, and describe the EXACT steps you are taking that leads to
this error.

Sorry - meant to say upgrading from Windows ME to Win 2000 Prof - I believe the performance
difference between a FAT and NT File system will be substantial. The computer is
a Sony Vaio and not very efficient. Memory has already been upgraded.

Doing an upgrade will be a big mistake. You should do a clean install, since you're
moving to an NT based OS. Besides, ME's problems will just follow you.

I couldn't agree more Carol.
It depends if he has a ME to Win2k Pro upgrade disk or a Win2k Pro stand alone.

Either way, he can still do a clean install as long as he has qualifying media, i.e.
a ME/98 install CD. You can also do a clean install of XP with an upgrade disk. However,
M$ made sure that wouldn't work with Vista.

Yes he will need a stand alone version of Win2k in order to install on a blank drive.

Are you sure?
You can't install an OS from an upgrade disk. I have a Win98 upgrade to WinME and
it won't work on its own.

What do you mean by standalone version of 2K? You can do a clean install of any OS
(except Vista), as long as you have qualifying media on hand to use at that point
in the process. If he has ME installation CD, that qualifies for 2K.
Example for XP... see Step 8. and 9.

My idea of a standalone is the full OS CD not an upgrade. So you can install it on
any blank hard drive.
In Dan's original post he I want to upgrade from ME to Office Pro.
As I said ME is an OS the Office Pro is M$ Software.
Then he said Sorry - meant to say upgrading from Windows ME to Win 2000 Prof
But he hasn't really given us the exact info we need. Is it an ME to Win2k upgrade
or a full version of Win2k.
|If he has ME installation CD, that qualifies for 2K.
Whether he does or doesn't have the ME CD he can't do an upgrade to Win2k from an
upgrade CD without ME or a lower OS already installed.
