wordpad error message

I am on windows me, and am presently receiving an error message when trying to open
up my wordpad, it states: C:\WINDOWS\Destop\ " ".doc is not a valid win 32 application
(ive put the inverted commas in instead of the file name for privacy reasons), but
i had my wordpad on my desktop and received the same error message, and with this
wordpad file also, and, I firmly believe all this started when i tried to open up
a webpage from an email, but, this email is suppose to be from a 'safe' website,
and now i cannot use any wordpad on my computer, i can get into webpages no problem
and still download, just cant use my wordpad, and i do not have 'notepad' on my computer,
and no, i do not have my 'windows me' program software, so i cannot reinstall the
windows program, is there anything I can do? can someone please help me? thank you.

Create a blank text file (using a TEXT EDITOR, not a word processor program) and
name the file WORDPAD.REG then copy and paste the following text (the text I have
highlighted in boldface) into it. You MUST then create one extra blank (empty)
line at the end of the file. Then save the file on your desktop, right-click the
file, and select MERGE. Make sure you backup your Registry before making this
change to it!

first of all, thankyou for responding to yet another problem im having on my computer,
ok, here's the problem with following your instructions, unfortunately for 'obvious'
reasons, I cannot paste and copy your instructions because i do not have any running
program to do this with (notably no notepad or workable 'wordpad'), but, when you
mentioned 'TEXT EDITOR', please forgive this question, but, where is this 'TEXT EDITOR',
ive never heard of it, so where do i find it?

I simply meant that you may carry out my suggestion by using any text editor, not
just notepad.
You might try downloading and installing a program called Superpad (a replacement
for notepad), or any of about a million freeware text editors you can find on the
internet.
Superpad: http://www.geocities.com/siliconvalley/hub/3650/spadrev.html
If you are using Win ME then your computer already contains Notepad (C:\WINDOWS\NOTEPAD.EXE)
as well as Wordpad (C:\PROGRAM FILES\ACCESSORIES\WORDPAD.EXE).
