Seeing icons under Windows ME

Hi guys.
Those of you that may or may not know me I've been using Win98SE for the past 7 years
that's because I've had problems
installing WinXP 2002. Anyway I bought a genuine copy of WinME of eBay last week
and I decided to give it a go over the weekend.
On Saturday I did a format and installed WinME without a problem but the first time
it started up it came up with an Browseui.dll error. It said try a restart to fix
the problem, I did this several times but the error was still there. Just clicking
the mouse on the desktop brought the error back so it didn't work. So I put Win98SE
back, old reliable.
My Problem Now.
So on Sunday I decided to give it one more try and it installed without errors and
I can use it. The problem I have now is that I'm installing all my software back
in and I use Imagedit.exe as my icon and cursor editor. So double-clicking on an
icon and Image Preview opens it. Image Preview is neither use nor ornament. So I
use Folder Options and File Types to find ico properties and delete it. Go back to
an icon double-click on it and select Imagedit.exe from Open With to open it and
it works ok. So I install more software and I go back to some icons and the icon
has changed on all of them to the Imagedit.exe icon. So I go back to File Types to
see what is showing under ico and Imagedit.exe is showing. So I click the restore
button to put it back to Image Preview and that changes all the icons to Image Preview
icon.
In Win98 you could see the icon as a picture, you just double-click on it and it
asks what program you want to open it. Just select Imagedit.exe and jobs done, you
can still see the icon image and Imagedit.exe opens it, what could be simpler.
Does anyone have an idea how I can get Imagedit.exe to open the icons (well I can
do that) and also see the individual icon images?

Rt Click on File, Open With, from the Menu. Choose Program, will give some other
options.

Thanks for your input Steve.
I've tried that Steve but there are no other options available. You either choose
Imagedit.exe, Image Preview or select another from the list or browse for one. Mine
doesn't show any other options.
There are loads of things wrong with WinME, I would have to make a new topic for
each one.
Anyway I wouldn't worry to much. WinME is the worst OS I've ever used so I'm putting
back the old reliable Win98SE later in the week.
As I said before.
After installing Win98 you could see an icon as a picture, you just double-click
on it and it asks what program you want to open it. Just select Imagedit.exe and
jobs done, you can still see the icon image and Imagedit.exe opens it, what could

Most Programs put themselves in the Rt Click Menu when installed. I have never heard
of the Image Program you are having a problem with, so can't comment on it.
WinME
does have a learning curve to get use to. It has almost the same Hardware Driver
support of XP, but is less stable then XP. The way XP, and ME handle the Right Click
Open With Menu is even the same.
When I decided to get down to one Win9X
computer it wasn't hard to choose ME over 98, but a lot of others do prefer 98.

As I've said before Steve. I've put back Win98SE and everything is back to normal.
Good old Win98.

Anyway rather than make a new topic I will add this.
When I was running Win98SE I added this line to my Autoexec.bat
Echo Y|If Exist C:\Windows\Temp\*.* Del C:\Windows\Temp\*.* >Nul
This just deletes any files in the Windows\Temp folder.
On WinME I added this line to the Autoexec.bat and it removed it. It also makes a
backup Autoexec.bak and I added the code to that and it removes that line as well.
As I said WinME is s***.
I've put back Win98SE and everything is back to normal.
Good old Win98.
