Can't access running item in taskbar

Often when running a program such as Nero which takes a long time to complete a task, the taskbar icon will stop functioning - I won't be able to get it to display the running program on my desktop. Click the icon ("untitled project", for instance) and the button goes in, but nothing else happens. Right clicking also does nothing. Any way to restore my program? This truly qualifies as an annoyance, since I've had to restart the process on many occasions. Thanks, P.

Nero uses about 100 percent of the system when running. This why Windows will have trouble opening a application until Nero is done.

Really? But I have no trouble running other things while Nero is doing its task. The problem comes when I can't get back to Nero because the taskbar link goes dead - usually after several hours. Is there a way to get back to Nero without using the link?.

I guess i don't get what the taskbar icon is. Maybe some else will have a clue.

I guess I should say "button" - what you use to bring an active session to the foreground.

Button sounds right. Not sure though. I still think it might be a Windows resources problem, but that is just a guess.

Try this: make sure you have more than one open program e.g. My Computer while Nero is open. Then holding down Alt Press TAB, but keep holding Alt. A window should appear, from there press TAB as many times as you need to to get to Nero, then release, it should open.

Sounds like you need to add more resources to the computer. Start by adding additional RAM memory. WinME will run better on 512 MB of RAM than on the standard 128 MB.

I did indeed add memory, long ago. I'm surprised Nero is considered such a resource hog, seeing as how I generally have no problem running other stuff while Nero is grinding away. It just seems to cause that one problem described above. So, no ideas for a work-around?

Steve's comment of Nov 29 reflects my own experience. Nero is a resource hog, using 100% of whatever memory is available.

The work-around is to uninstall Nero and use a different program. They don't all do this.

You are not entitled to post the statement "often when running a program such as Nero which takes a long time to complete a task the taskbar icon will stop functioning", if what you really meant was that you ONLY encounter that situation when using Nero.

Your original statement is misleading, in implying that the fault is with Windows. My experience is that the problem is with Nero.

This forum is only for problems with Windows. It is not a support forum for Nero. You may be better off posting in a Nero forum - see their website, or do a Google search, for such forums.
