Printer won't work

I have a HP Deskjet 1280 printer, but for some reason it won't work with the LPT
port on this computer.
Neither would my Epson C70. The Epson C70 worked on USB, but i can't use the HP on
USB because i use that cable for my Cdrom drive. Does anyone have an idea why my
LPT port isn't working?

It's OK now. All I did was plug it into the USB port (I had already tried this) and
it installed itself. Microsoft Windows is very strange, and so are Printers, together
they are living hell.
