Explorer windows are blank after IE6 reinstall

I was working on a friends computer because she was getting an error doing boot-up due to a problem with an IE6 update. I uninstalled IE6 with Internet Tools in the Add/Remove Programs window and reinstalled IE6. The following problems now exist: 1) Opening windows like the control panel or the hard drive show at the bottom of the window the number of items in the folder but the window is blank. 2) Outlook Express gives a msimn error. Please help!

I find the newsgroup/forum under Microsoft / Windows / Millenium Edition / General to as well as this web site to be the two best places to search for solutions to Millinium Edition (aka winME ) problems. In the same area their is a win98se forum or win9x forum (possibly both) which can be useful. There our Outlook forums that can be good too.
