IE taken over by MSN ISP Signup Wizard

After recovering my system using the recovery discs, I now have IE always opening with a window to signup for MSN ISP. I have tried everything using "Internet Options" and IE always reverts to the signup page. How do I get rid of this preinstalled junk. I upgraded IE but the problem remains. HELP!

Keith, I appreciate your response but I note in my post that Internet Options was of no help. Everytime I would enter my homepage choice in options, and then opened Explorer, IE would ONLY open a signup wizard for MSN internet service. This is how it was when I purchased my machine and was setup this way originally. There is a way, I just don't remember how I got IE to act as a web browser instead of an advertising weapon. I believe once I signed up for the dialup MSN service, then IE behaved properly. I then canceled the service and chose AOL at the time. I can't try this ploy because I an using cable (Comcast) and don't use a dialup connection. Any ideas are welcome. Emails to MSN support hasn't helped one bit. I remain frustrated in Pa.

I was just asking. Well if thats the case then I would say you have a malware\spyware installed without you knowing it. I would also do a full virus check just in case. I always here of things like this on other forums. The program that I would recommend to anyone is Uninstall Manager. I've used it for 4 years and nothing has gotten into my system without me knowing it. The name is a bit misleading it doesn't uninstall anything. It checks the contents of you hard drive. The next time you check it it tells you what additional files have been added showing their size, date and location. If you don't want a file it gets put in your Recycle bin. You can add folders to ignore like Cookies, Temporary Internet Files and Recent because these files are changing all the time. You can also do a System Restore at the touch of a button.

Are you talking about the "wizard" that opens when you run IE for the first time after installing the OS?

Exactly! It just went away on it's own somehow after I opened IE for the first time. Never signed up for MSN's internet service. It's back after a reinstall using my system recovery discs. It won't go away no matter which version of IE I install or what home page i designate in IE properties. Any help will be MOST appreciated. I anxiously await your reply. Dave
