Outlook Express 6 Error

I keep getting some kind of direct or director.dll or .dbx error which shuts down
my O/E 6 program when I click it off. I understand it is some kind of .dbx file error/corruption
that can be repaired somekind of way.
I tried to rename the .dbx file and I lost all of my old email somewhere. I tried
several freeware O/E 6 repair software and none works without buying the full version
which I would IF I knew it would work well to repair O/E 6. Any possible way to repair/reinstall
with my WIN ME CD without losing my existing email address contacts and old emails
I have saved?
Please direct me to the best way to correct this problem ASAP>
I will be waiting for your help.
Thanks,
Kenny

Well if you renamed them rename them back. You don't need to rename them just move
them to another folder.

O/E 6 is free when you install Internet Explorer. Do you use IE6.0? If so then just
use download and install
Internet
Explorer 6.0 SP1

You probably have a fairly easy to fix problem.
Here are some links. Read the information they link to, which will help you to understand
how Outlook Express works. You should then be able to work out what is wrong, and
to correct it.
These links also include some tools (utility programs) for correcting a range of
OE problems, including a program for extracting e-mails from .dbx files if you can't
open them in any other way.

Hey Guys,
I went to IE6 install/remove then did a repair IE6, in fact twice. The first time
when I reopened OE6, it gave me the directdb.dll error again. So far the second time
it seems to be helping. I didn't know IF I should try to reinstall IE6 again on top
of my existing IE6. I will try the links that you sent to me and see what I can do
with them, hopefully I can get it resolved.
I did try to rename the folder.old back to folder.dbx but it either refused to allow
it to revert OR I could not find the original file on my pc. Any other possible ways
to find and save/move my old emails in the bad .dbx file?
Thanks and keep the ideas coming,
Kenny

Yes you can do a reinstall of IE6 I've done that before now, only because I've had
problems with IE not OE.
