Microsoft Invading My Computer!!!

Is there some way I can stop the latest onslaught of pop-ups from microf***? I use
ME with Firefox and in the last couple of days I've been getting deluged with "Click2find"
and "Online Education" every 10 minutes, there are two of each right now that showed
up while I've been downloading the newest version of AdAware. I have Firefox set
to block pop-ups. Oh, here we go, another "Click2find" just appeared.......

Post to a Spyware forum. It isn't coming from Microsoft, and besides, ME has been
out of support for years now. No more updates/patches so you will either have to
upgrade or suffer, as all prevention apps will not, or won't be supporting versions
of spyware detection on Win 9X either (or will stop in the near future if they still
do). By it's very nature, Win 9X can't be secured as well as NT/W2K/XP so support
is being dropped by everyone especially since it is no longer supported by MS.
You probably have more infections then what you are aware of at the moment. Sorry,
it's called progress I guess.... Might post to the Spybot forum for the best assistance,
but don't expect much. We don't do spyware and viruses here, at least not supposed
to as it is considered off topic...
BTW, the newest version of Adaware doesn't support Win 9X that I know of. Only older
version of spyware programs will run on Win 9X and they aren't being updated to handle
the newest malware so you shouldn't expect your system to be protected. Just updating
the definitions is not enough, the programs themselves have to be updated which isn't
being done for Win 9X. FF is also included in this. The newest version of FF won't
support Win 9X either. Even if it does run, it is looking for NT to be able to be
effective. It can't interface properly so it won't work correctly on Win 9X and
it's updates will be useless and can't protect you.. Sorry.. :-(

I was just discovering that the latest version of AdAware won't work with ME as you
were posting here. I also just became aware that the income tax program I've used
for years won't run on ME either. Thanks for the reply and suggestions though, it
was (and is) an annoyance so I thought I'd give it a try. I am disappointed with
the computer/internet business in general though, ME cost me a lot when I bought
it and that's a pretty short shelf life in my opinion.

Since your computer may have been hijacked, You really shouldn't use it for your
Income Tax work until you get it cleaned up. Many of the new Virus's have key Loggers
looking for Financial information to pass on to the Hijackers. Register at one of
the Malware Removal Forums, and you should be able to find help cleaning it up.

Try emptying Firefox's browser cache and deleting the cookies. That is where most
popup problems stem from providing something has not actually installed itself on
your system.
I have found over the years that if I empty my browser cache regularly there really
isn't that much for Ad-Aware to find. I could pretty much live without Ad-Aware.
