network password

Have set up a home wireless network, with a Dell Vista desktop tied to a Linksys
wireless router and a clone ME desktop connected via a USB wireless adapter. Both
can access the internet. The vista machine can see the ME files. The ME machine
can see the Vista computer name (say desktop-pc), when I try to access it, it asks
for a network password (\\desktop-pc\IPC$). As none has been knowingly set up, where
do I go next?

Unfortunately you cannot access Vista shares from an ME/9x machine.

Why, what are the limitations? How about windows 2000 or XP accessing Vista?

You can access Vista shares from any NT based system (NT, 2k, XP & server versions)
but not from any 9x/ME.
Why - ask M$! Its probably a 'security' issue.
