standby mode

I've notice this really annoying problem with my Windows Me 2000. For some reason
when I leave my computer alone for some bit, it goes into that standby or hibernation
mode, where that yellow light is on, but it just won't come out. Even when I'm moving
the mouse and pressing buttons, space bar included like crazy. I.ve checked the power
options in the control panel and they seem OK, because I've set everything to where
it wouldn't do that, but the computer just won't respond. I have to keep pulling
the plug/power to restart the computer, and start this annoyance over and over again.
Those anyone know what this could be.

Never heard of Win ME 2000. There is Win ME which is a Win 9X system and there is
Windows 2000 professional which is a whole different operating system (Win NT) than
the core that Win ME was built on. That said, and not knowing as to what you really
have, you could have a hardware incompatibility, or more often, that your BIOS is
configured to trigger power saving mode (which Windows may have issues with).
For incompatibility, depending on the age of the hardware and whether it could be
fixed with a BIOS update, (if the manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer even supplied
one) then you might be able to fix it if it is a compatibility issue.
For settings in the BIOS, you would have to read the manual that came with the machine
or the motherboard for power saving options and set them appropriately. If you don't
have a manual, you might find one on the computer or motherboard manufactures website.

As CK says I've never heard of Windows Me 2000 either. If its Win2k you are using
then you've posted in the wrong forum.

My mistake, my computer says Windows 2000 professional Windows ME.

You still haven't stated which system you are using WinME or Win2k. You can only
have both on a double boot system. WinME on one drive and Win2k on another.
I don't have Win2k at home and I don't have admin rights at work but on Win9x/ME
have a look in Control Panel - Power Mangement. Have a look at Power Schemes, Settings
for Home/Office Desl power scheme and I never have mine turned on anyway. Look in
th Advanced tab Power buttons as well to see what its doing.

Not sure what you have, but Win ME and W2K are two totally different operating systems.
The only similarity is that the Graphical User Interface (GUI) in W2K looks the
same as Win ME for the most part.
If you are presented with a screen at boot up to choose Win ME or W2K, then you have
a dual boot system. Otherwise, for Win ME and W2K to be stated anywhere on the system,
you would have had to have modified the operating system to read as such. Even then,
it is only Win ME or W2K running so it's not clear which one you have at this point.
My original post still stands however. You either have hardware incompatibilities
(BIOS/settings/older hardware) or failure, or you have software/program/driver issues.
In hibernation mode, the computer will shut down and completely power off, meaning,
that you would have to restart the computer as you would normally, after doing a
normal shutdown.
Standby, leaves the machine running in a low power state, something that the BIOS
can trigger, independant of Windows. If this is what's happening, Windows may not
be compatible with it and you can have the problem you are having now. As I said
previously, check the BIOS settings when you boot up for power saving options and
disable them if enabled. They are not part of Windows and can cause the issue you
have now. If they are already disabled. Then you have incompatibilities with Windows
in either hardware or software, possibly a corrupt Windows install (if it worked
correctly at one time but doesn't now).
One last issue on older systems is that if you have a USB keyboard/mouse instead
of a PS2 style and the BIOS isn't enabled properly for legacy USB options, the mouse
and/or KB may not wake up the computer, and this includes any mouse or keyboard with
a PS2 to USB adaptor. Lastly IME, some machines can only be "woke up" by pressing
the power up button, such as on some laptops..
