Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack

I had Internet Explorer 6 downloaded on my computer until I had some problems and had to run my recovery disk. Now when I try to download it again it says some components can not be installed. It's the Service pack that I am trying to install. What do I do?

Hi Donna.

Well I'm presuming you mean IE6.0 SP1?

You should have tried a system restore rather then recovery.

You could try Control Panel - Add/Remove programs and see it Internet Explorer is
listed. Click on remove and you should be given the option to Repair, Reinstall or
Remove, try a reinstall.

If that fails then you need to download SP1 again. If your on dial up then this will
take one hour or more. Or you can download

All In One - 98SE Option
Pack 1.0.1. 102MB I know it says Win98 but there are things on there for WinME
and it has IE6.0 SP1 in there.

Now this site was playing up a bit today when I searched for the Option Pack so try
it later on.

Or you can download it again of Microsoft

Internet
Explorer 6 Service Pack 1

You only download the setup file which is only 480Kb then you have to stay connect
while it downloads and installs it.

Now the only slight problem here is you have to do the same operation everytime.
When I did this I burned the folder to a CD so I could use again in an emergency.

I tried the system restore first thing but I couldn't get to it. Computer wouldn't let me do anything. It was like it was froze up. And I have tried several times to reinstall it but it keeps saying can't download certain compontents. And I can't find it on the control panel either so I'm stumped! lol...I don't understand why it downloaded one time and now it won't. And to tell you the truth I'm not that good at computer stuff. lol...

I think you can do a system restore in DOS.

Let me get this straight. Were you trying to install IE6.0 SP1 because you already
had IE6.0 install?

Or were you trying to upgrade to SP1?

Well I'm sure it should be listed in Add/Remove because I think the default IE (meaning
the one thats installed when you first install WinME) for WinME is IE5.0. Therefore
each newer version you upgrade too overwrites the original version but keeps a backup.
But you are saying that Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and Internet Tools
if you installed SP1 fully, isn't shown at all?

When you install IE6.0 SP1 it is the full version with SP1 built in. You don't have
to install IE6.0 then download and install IE6.0 SP1 afterwards.

I've just tried 98SE
Option Pack 1.0.1. and it works now.

There is also another Win98SE update which includes IE6.0 SP1 and DirectX 9.0

Windows 9x
Power Pack Patch 4.1 72MB which is a rar file but you will need WinRAR to unpack
it.
