cant go on to the internet

Well after i did a repair install of windows me i cant go on the internet.when i
try to go onto internet exploror it says error page cant be found
i tryed reinstalling the drivers for the cable modem but when in the installion thing
it says it trying to test the connection between the computer and the modem but no
thing happens it just never stops it just keeps going and going
its a cable modem
