Setting up a shared printer not in Add Printer Wizard

I am trying to set up a Windows ME desktop so that it can use an HP Officejet 6110 printer installed on another machine. The Add Printer Wizard lists only an Officejet and an Officejet LX - selecting either of these allows prints to be made but only in Black-and-White, with the printed test page stating that colour is not supported. I have tried the "Have disk" option in the wizard and, after inserting the HP 6110 disk, can find a number of files of the form *.inf. However, every one of these results in the error message that the selected file has no information about the hardware. I have also tried downloading a set of driver files and this gets exactly the same results (ie. the selected file contains no information about the hardware). Any suggestions as to how to set up the ME machine?

I recently bought a HP Printer, and also couldn't get it to work over the Network with a WinME Computer. What I do on the WinME PC now is just copy the Document to the Computer with the Working Printer, then Print the Document from there.

I have downloaded a driver from the web that is supposed to be ME compatible and I think that the disc supplied with the printer also works with ME. The problem is linking the driver to the printer, and assigning the printer to the ME machine. I suspect that, if the printer was connected directly to the ME machine, I could probably just run the setup disc and it would load properly. However, the printer is on another machine and I can't see any way of adding the printer other than through the Add Printer Wizard - this then fails as mentioned in my first post.

Try getting the Printer running by hooking it up to the problem computer. Once you got the drivers installed, and working properly, then move the Printer Back to where ever it was. You will probably need to run the add printer wizard on the ME computer again to point it to the Network, but the driver will already be installed at least.

Steve, I've tried this but the problem is that the Add Printer Wizard doesn't list the Officejet 6110, only a simple Officejet and Officejet LX. Selecting either of these allows prints to be made but only in monochrome which I assume is because the Officejet 6110 driver isn't being picked up.

I don't have any more suggestions, other then to uninstall what you have done, and try again.

Thanks anyway, Steve, I'll try going back to square one, as you suggest.
