Very Nice

I own five other computers. Most are Xp, some are Mac and there is even a Ubuntu
machine in there.
Just for fun, a fresh install of Win Me was done this week.
It has been a very long time since I have experienced "fast" computing but bringing
back Me has done that.
Perhaps we are just a tad "bloated" with Xp, Mac OSX, and Hardy Heron. It is our
own fault, we want it all, all the drivers, etc.
Me, 98, etc will never return. Too fast, too simple.

And too unreliable.
And with the right hardware XP is just as fast. Faster if you include all the restarts.

I still use My old ME computer for My business accounting. Have noticed though in
the past couple years it is no longer totally compatible with the Internet. Some
Web sites mostly related to multimedia sites just don't work. Have had the same problem
with Linux.

Absolutely. Your ass included.
ME had to be rebooted about once or twice a day. XP goes for weeks at a time without
restarting. As an IT manager for a small outfit, I had responsibility for about 500
computers, my statistics are a heck of a lot more significant than yours, AND Heck,
you're one to talk... you can't seem to get your computer running with any kind of
reliability at all.

wow, when I posted my views on ME I did not know it would create such a reaction.
To go on, yes Xp is a very good OS, and yes some had problems with ME, me included.
And no, ME does not have the driver data base that Xp has. But, in all honesty,
it was a good OS, not as good as today of course, time marches on. But the bottom
line is, the more drivers the more bloated the system becomes. I would not want
to go back to DOS 3.1 but it was fun while it lasted. It seems to me that we have
hit the glass ceiling on operating systems. Sort of like cars, the new ones are
neat but they still use wheels to get around. I wish something really new would
happen in the computer world to make me lust for it like I once lusted for Windows
ME.

ME was absolute crap compared to W98SE. Remember I saw several hundred computers
running on W95, then W98, then SE, ME, and finally XP. By far XP was the most reliable,
whiled ME and 95 were pretty much in a tie for the worst of the bunch. It's irrelevant
how well it runs immediately after installing, they all do. What counts is how well
it runs months later after installing and uninstalling lot's of software. The underlying
DOS foundation absolutely ensured reliability problems for all of the OS's before
W2K. (I know the early versions of NT were not handicapped by DOS, but had a significant
number of backwards compatibility issues, it wa reliable, just not very useful.)

One of your problems is that you are illiterate and can't spell.
because, problems, and more
Careless typos are to be expected, but continually misspelling the same word is an
indicator that you wouldn't know quality if it were staring you in the face.

I would suggest that you pay more attention in class, and study a lot more, so that
you can improve your language skills. I've interviewed and hired a lot of people
in my career, and when I came across candidates that write like you do, they didn't
get hired. People who don't pay attention to details can be a costly disaster in
the work place.

It is really sad that people cannot have a simple conversation or comment on something
as ordinary as a computer operating system without attacking a person on his/her
perceived ability to communicate.
For the Prof. I installed Linux Ubuntu Hardy Heron in a dual boot partition set
up and kept Windows ME on the machine "just for fun". And yes, the ancient printer
was immediately "found" by Linux, while even with drivers installed, Me refused to
see the same printer.
Anyway, Me is fun, frustrating and ancient. Back then, you had to do research, read,
and work at getting some things to do what they were supposed to do.
Now all you do is load the OS and away you go. So easy and so dumbed down. Education
has done this for us, dumbed us down. Push a button and you have it, or so you think.
Obviously, since the prof hated Me so much, he was lacking in the required skills
to make it do what he wanted it to do.
As for our young person who responded to this but did not meet the profs expectations.
Do not be intimidated, do not allow anyone to ever attempt to harness your right
to free speach. Do your homework as the prof said, but keep in mind that some of
the best minds in American History had problems writing. And some of the most evil
minds in world history had good writing / communication skills. Hitler made some
dandy speaches.
This started as a simple observation on an ancient operating system. Ended up being
an observation as to why were in the shape were in. Highly educated people have
been running our country for how long now?
Keep trying Dan The Man, you will make it.

Guess I should put in my two cents about windows ME!
I have two ME boxes! And have never had a problem
with either one, There are some programs I couldn't
run on ME, But you can find that with other systems
also.
I have installed and uninstalled hundreds of programs
on both of them! Never gave me any problems, you
just need to keep them clean.
PMR, Your advise to DanTheMan was perfect! Ricer46

No you don't write well at all. And as far as the 27 year old's that are "trying"
to get a job and also write like you, there may well be a correlation. At breakfast
this morning my son mentioned that he canceled an interview with a prospective employee,
because the grammar and spelling in the candidate's email was so poor that he felt
that the guy's work performance would be of a similar quality. I have interviewed
scores of candidates over the years, and know what a difference that first impression
can make. What's crazy is that you don't even know how poor your writing skills are,
AND there are others who are supporting your "right" to be illiterate. Whether you
like it or not, people will judge you by your communication skills, and if they don't
improve, no one will be hurt but yourself.

It wasn't that I lacked the skills to make ME work, I preferred it over W98 despite
it's poor reliability and used it for a couple of years before making the switch
to XP It is not just my opinion; it is well documented that any system built on top
of DOS is significantly less reliable than any version of NT. You forget that I managed
nearly 500 PCs, most of them went through the series of upgrades from W95 to XP.
Multiple daily reboots were typical on those computers, while XP went for weeks without
reboots. ME does indeed run beautifully right after it's loaded, unfortunately it
needs to be reloaded about every six months. W2K and XP can run for years without
a re-install, and still be just as fast and reliable as the day it was installed.

It is surprising that u write correct English and yet defend someone who writes gibberish!
Is that the way u teach your children at home? Because of their rights to free speech?
True trouble-shooting a PC problems is done partly in computese or computer technical
jargon, the language should still be grammatically correct. This situation is analogous
to defending someone on pot and crack because of their rights to free actions or
the 4th amendment. Sure let them go ahead! No wonder Taiwan, Malayasia or even China
and India are passing us ahead. The young man does not have to use Harvard or Queen's
English but elementary high school English will help him through. His level of English
is below that of elementary high school. Instead of being like a court jester who
agrees with what ever the King says, advice and correct the king.

I suppose in twenty years, we of the actual multiple letter word generations, will
be replaced by the single letter and abbreviation generations. Don't even get me
started on punctuation and paragraphs.
My brain knows how to spell, it's my fingers that don't. Think of how much space
on a page we can save by using one letter words though! LOL That just saved 14
spaces, but then I didn't pay attention in math class so I could be wrong! ;-)
Now I have to go figure out why the bank says I'm out of money! ROFL ;-)
