Remove Log from previous virus scan
Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 7:06 am Posted by elmoticky

On March 31, 2009 a scan done by the British Trend
Micro cleaned my computer of virus infections. In
that scan a log was downloaded in my computer that
I want to remove.
Yesterday I ran a scan using this country`s Trend
Micro and it worked smoothly, as opposed to March
31st. when I was denied access.
I need to remove this log for it is now useless and
need the space for a future scan in which I may want
to create log. Please advise me how to remove it. I
have not even tried for fear of messing things that
I know nothing of.
Thank you

Steve thanks again. I clicked on myHiJackjack This icon
on my desktop and the log that I have seen previously
does not show. I only see three items described as
back up files. I deleted those and they refuse to stay
deleted, they are there when I go in there again.
I see no reason for really deleting this three items.
What do you think...Two of those items are (no name) and one is Norton Internet Security..I
do not
have Norton installed in my computer any longer.
What do you think, why can`t I delete them?

I have the online virus scanners leave the log file they create just on the Desktop,
and after I look at I just delete it. So you kind of lost Me.

Honestly, I am lost too. I have Highjack This on my
desktop. I click on it and the large box appears on
my screen with the following prompts: 1."Do a system scan and save a logfile. 2.
"Do a system scan
only" 3. This one is the only one that I can think of
that will help me "view the backup lists"...I click on
it and I get the three items I mentioned earlier. I
cannot delete them...The log that was on my computer earlier is no longer there.
I hope this will
help you understand. If not, let me know. I will try]
again.

I am not really familiar with Hijackthis. In general Log files are really tiny as
far as it goes, and I wouldn't worry about losing them. You could put a thousand
of them on one floppy disk and still have space left over.

Well just find where it is and as Steve says delete it.
You could always use CCleaner.

Keith Stanier, thanks for your advise on CCleaner.
Sometime a while back, I think it was here on this
site that I read "cleaners" that supposedly cleans
a registry in a computer are dangerous and may
even be rogue. I really know nothing about that.
However, because I use this old WinMe that I have
taken great care of, I read the link you provided and
I really liked what it says....."CCleaner is a freeware
system of optimization, privacy and cleaning tool". I
read the whole paragraph and since you recommend
it, I would like you opinion on whether the Rogue
description that I have in my mind is valid. I will try
it if you recommend it. Even if I told steve that my
backups that I cannot delete are harmless.
Thanks Keith to you and Steve.

Well I've been using CCleaner for the past two and a half years and I've never had
any problems. Because it has a registry cleaner it does say you have to use it if
you don't feel safe. If you do use it then it has the option to save all the info
removed from the registry to a reg file so you can always double-click this file
to put the info back in.
Now if you still unsure they have their own Piriform
Forum where you can join and ask any questions you want too about it. I've been
a member there for a couple of years, see you in there.

Keith Stanier, I went to Piriform forum and read some of the discussion on ccleaner.
Due to my
ignorance with respect to the registry and the
potential for a mistake in my part in running this
ccleaner, I believe that the three backup files that I want to remove do not rise
to the level of emergency. I have wrote the URL for piriform and
if necessary, I will most certainly use it. Right now
I think I will stay safe in my own mind. Thanks again
Keith. You guys have not failed me yet.

What are these three backup files you want to remove?
Surely you can delete these files on your own?
With CCleaner you can select certain folders or files that you want cleaning in addition
to a normal clean.

keith Stanier, here are the three files that I want
to delete: 3/25/2009, 1025:08 AM: 02-BHO(no name)
[ADEDFA96-1357-OBF3 7725-3BC1682316...Two of
the files are exactly the same except the numbers.
The third is Norton Internet Security which I have
not had on my computer for about two years. I
tried to delete them from the box by checking the
check-box on each side and I delete them. When I
go to my desktop and click Hijackthis, the large box
opens and I click the backup file prompt and they
appear again. So this is about all I can tell you at
this time..I have just given up because I usually
do not go there, unless of course a scan will be
made soon.
