malware/greyware infection

A trend micro scan shows that my pc has one infection.
It is the same one that on March (ancien) provided the
information to correct the infection. The infection is:
"ADW_mywebsearch". As I understand,the file is at
c:/restore/archive/FS174 cab!...Ancien showed my how to delete my restore files and
then run another scan. He provided me with a walkthrough which I saved, by just cannot
find the instructions. I do not
know if the process is the same that ancien showed
me. I got rid of the infection back when ancien helped
me, but now I have it again, what`s up with that?
Can you tell me why it comes back, especially on that
file that cannot be deleted by the scan itself, for as
I understood ancien, that file is locked and cannot be
deleted with I choose "clean now" at the end of the
scan. Any help will be appreciated, as always.
Also, please provide me with the steps to delete my
restore files and then download it again, if that is
the same process I used before. Thanks

It comes back because you probably use Internet Explorer as your Browser..

Steve as always thank you for your prompt response.
I have not used Internet Explorer for over a year now, I think its that long. I found
ancien instructions which I had printed and saved as I mentioned. I went
and disabled system restore and run another scan
as instructed and it came back clean. So yes, I did
this right after I posted my help request as I found
my instructions. Everything is good now Steve. Like
I said, thanks a lot for being there each time I have
a problem...You guys are great. By the way, I now
use Mozilla Firefox ever since I got rid of Internet
Explore.

Mywebsearch Toolbar is another type of Internet navigational bar
that targets Internet Explorer. However,
it is reported by many Users, the toolbar is bundled within
other things that are downloaded and Most adware and spy ware companies agree that
it is
considered a low risk software program.

Steve your information with regards to Mywebseach
toolbar is very interesting. I clicked and lowered the
menu on my websearch tool bar and noticed that an
option there gives me a chance to "uninstall" it. Since
I always prefer to google "everything actually", and
do not use this websearch feature, my question to
you then, is, what are the pros and cons in your
opinion if I were to uninstall this feature? After all,
the malware/greyware infections that I have reported
have come through my websearch tool bar. I noted
that there are numerous other features in my websearch tool bar which I sometime
google, so since
I do not use mywebsearch too bar to search for any
of the feature shown therein, I am just thinking that
perhaps I should ask you the question of uninstalling
it. Thanks Steve, I will wait for whenever you have
time to give my your advise.

Personally I consider it Spyware, and it seems mostly connected with funwebproducts
or smileys central. It is harder to remove then a typical Program, but removal Directions
are posted at a bunch of web sites.

For a while I toyed with the funwebproducts and the
smiley central but found slowness and locked PC
so I removed all the the funwebproducts and now my
tool bar only has mywebsearch which like I said do
not use. To be totally honest today was the first time
I thought of removing this tool bar...for no apparent
reason. After all it is not like I am infested with bugs
caused by this feature. The two malware/greyware
that I found are easily removed, now that I know the
source, and applications to remove. So I think that I
will just leave things as they are, and not stir a hornet`s nest in doing something
I have no idea how
it will work...Don`t you think it is better to leave it
alone, as long as I can control these bugs?
Thank you Steve, it is always educational hearing you
explain these things. Congrats.

funwebproducts or smileys central are generally considered undesirable, along with
the mywebsearch, so many of the Spyware, and Antivirus Products target them as Bad,
and try to remove them.
At least you know how the questionable files keep
showing up in your scans, since you seem to be knowingly installing them.

You are right Steve. When I was toying with the
smilies, fungames and other stuff in funwebproducts
I got three malware/greyware viruses trapped into
the Restore files which I could not get deleted by
the trend Micro scan. So when I learned from ancien
how to remove all this stuff off the restore files, I
just stopped using all those traps. However, I note
when I drop the menu in my websearch tool bar
there is an extensive list of options that one can chose to open. I was wondering
if even if I do not use this tool bar -- but yet open a program on the list from
another place -- might it come back to mywebsearch tool bar as a virus and infect
it? I do
not think of these things until its too late sometimes.
But I guess my old WinMe just hasn`t got the protection it should. This might sound
crazy, but I even uninstalled my Norton Internet Security 2005
about two years ago and have never experienced
any serious problems heavier than these pesky bugs
on mywebsearch tool bar. I guess because I just
do reading(websites/forums) and write on WORD, I
do not feel the need for pouring expenses where I
don`t think urgent...Steve, it is educational interacting with you as I said, thanks
for the time you
take to respond...Have a nice weekend...PS Having
installed Firefox and abandoning IE, I had no use for
Norton, so I removed it.

if you want you can use Avast! anti virus
works nice for me
and you should remove system restore
i uesd to have so meny problems with virus's hiding in the system restore folder.
since i removed system restore and i got a good firewall(kerio) and antivirus/antispyware(avast)
i dont get virus's no more
hes the link for system restore removal
http://majorgeeks.com/System_Restore_Remover_Pro_d516.html
i understand that you may have to use system restore to fix your computer some times
but system restore takes so much room and takes system resouces and its a pain in
the ass
i use norten ghost :)

DanTheMan thank you for your advise malware/greyware infection. As you may know
I simply uninstalled(not removed) my restore files
and ran another scan to clean my computer. I then
installed restored again and have not had viruses
since then.
I do not have a firewall or any other virus protection
installed in my computer. I had Norton Internet Security when I used to have IE as
my browser, but
I discovered that IE was actually a virus trap and got
rid of it, and switched to Firefox, which came with a
lot of protections that I enjoy without any other costly
firewalls.
I am basically a reader, who just reads blogs and at
some point write a thread in a forum, other than that
I see no way that I could attract scams or viruses. I
stay away from porns sites as a personal rule, seen
one, seen them all -- that`s how I see it.
DanTheMan, thanks for your advise. Take care and
I seriously doubt that I would want to take down my
tool to fix my computer in case of need(restore). But
I will save the link you provided.P.S. I have had my computer several years now(WinMe),
and never had
problems with horses or serious bugs, other than my
own mistakes causing slow downs and lately restore,
but I have learned that this is also minor.
