When booting the computer I don't have a mouse I checked the devise manager and there is a ? mark by the ps/2 compatible mouse port. I don't have the cd for the computer any more and need to download a driver for the mouse. This is not my computer so here is what I got. It is Gateway computer with Windows Me and serial number is 0021894628 I can't find what series it is. I hope you can assist.

Well Rosi its not easy without a mouse but if you can get back into Device Manager.
Use the Windows button to press Start. Use the cursor buttons to scroll up to Settings
then across to Controla Panel. Use the Tab key to move around the different parts.
Move down to System and press enter. When the main screen has focus use the cursor
keys to come down to Mouse and press the + to expand it. Then move down to what should
be installed/used and press Alt+R to show the properties. Then you use the Tab key
the cursor keys to Drivers then Update driver button. Move down to Display a list
of all drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want
click Next.

If you can't see anything compatible then click on
Show all hardware, click Next.

That should show a list of drivers and models

In mine its a PS/2 Compatible Mouse Port which uses

VMM32.VXD, MSOUSE.VXD, and MOUSE.DRV drivers. Which should be installed as standard.

Find a suitable mouse the click Next because you don't have your own drivers.

There are plenty of sites you can download it from. You have to be careful what you
search for there are a lot of Win3.1 mouse.drv out there. I would think that Win98
would suit.

Its a pity this forum isn't like the 50 other forums I use. I could zip and post
that file to you.

Now I don't know how long she wants to use WinME. To me its the worst operating system
M$ ever made. She might be better of doing a search on eBay. I bought my genuine
WinME CD (unused still sealed) of there for £15 last year.

I've been a lover of Win98SE for 9 years and 5 years ago I was given a copy of Win98
to WinME upgrade. I tried it for a month didn't like it so the good old Win98SE went
back. I've just bought a new computer a couple of weeks ago so I'm getting used to
WinXP.
