Upgrading Firefox

clicking on a video shutsdown my computer
I have a Dell Dimension computer running Win Me.
I have Firefox 2.0.0.20 and it is running well.
I have tried to upgrade to Firefox 3 - with no luck.
I understand that Win Me is compatible with Firefox 3.
The upgrade process works OK until I get to the File Extracting feature.
It seems to extract all of the files and then I consistently get an error message
to the effect that Setup caused an error in Setup.exe and will now close.
It then suggests that I try restarting my computer if I continue to receive the
same error message.
I've tried several times to upgrade, including the computer restart, to no avail.
Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Please ignore the reference to video shutting down my computer. I don't know how
that got into my message.

Well it depends where you downloaded Firefox 3 from. The last version that runs on
Win9x/ME is
Firefox 2.0.0.20
Check the spec of the place you downloaded from.

Firefox 3 is not compatible really. There are some work a rounds posted on the internet,
but I never tried them. I would just stay with version 2. Windows 98, and Win ME,
are losing support from many software and Hardware vendors.

Supposedly there are some changes you can do to FF3 that will enable it to run on
Win 9X. I have tried the changes and it was unstable. Your experience might be
different..

Remove unwanted header, by selecting Forum Preferences, which is in a gray box when

if you want you can try kernelex
makes win xp programs run on 9x
it hardly works for any thing but, still it works on firefox 3
but firefox 3 runs slow with it (or maybe its just firefox 3)

Thanks for the replies.
The suggested possible cures sound like they are more than I can handle.
I'll just keep my status quo until Win Me becomes so obsolete it no longer serves
my purposes.
Thanks again.
