Blue Screens and Freeze Ups

Computer: HP xl848 (from Sam's Club)
Lots of freeze ups and Blue Screens; (OE messages). I've added memory (another 128)
ran diagnositics and still have the same problems.
Mostly occurs when retrieving emails. Beside cleaning the system and installing
Windows 98, any suggestions or sites that may help my problem ?
Thanks.

Check your system resources. If below 80% run msconfig, goto startup tab and remove
unecessary programs. HP support can advise on which ones are truely necessary

If you guys are using Norton Anti-virus and have more than 512meg there might be
a problem. Norton (as well as Windows) has known issues dealing with more than 256meg
RAM.
Also I've heard that there might be a memory leak with Outlook Express 5 if you are
using it. ( I don't use it.) Check with the Microsoft Knowledge base to see if there
is an update.
If none of the above applies to you, then I'm out of ideas. Sorry.
