System File Protector

Ok first some praise.
I Purchased W95 Annoyances in'97. Since then I haven't switched OS without an O'Reilly
& Associates book. Well written and easy to read. Good job fellas keep it up.
Second, a quick rant (please ignore if you have previously used Winblows products).
Why is it MS feels the need to take perfectly good ideas and implement them in such
a way as to negate any positive effects? (why is the sky up?)
When I got hold of W98 I thought that 'System file protection' was the best thing
since sliced bread. "No more will progs make a pigs breakfast of my files" I said,
and launched into installs that would make a brave nerd weep. Alas I forgot who I
was dealing with.
I recently moved to WinME and at first glance was impressed. Credit where credit
is due. Plug and play is alive and well (albeit after 6yrs and three OS releases
later). But what about my beloved SFP? *sigh* OK now the problem.
I cannot (deliberatly) overwrite/replace/remove/alter any of my system dll's without
SFP restoring the original immediately despite my wishs. No 'may I' or 'thank you',
this once polite child has become quite the brat. I need help to tame this beast
that once was so lovable. More exactly I need to replace a specific .dll with an
older version to counter problems I'm having with a game.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
