SUReg Createkey failed

I received a warning error message:Windows has detected a registry/configuration
error. SUReg Create Key failed, (Enum\HTREE\ROOT\0). System either goes into Safe
Mode or it will start with a dialog box to Add New Hardware Wizard. The BOOTLOG.TXT
file displays,([000C5D85] Starting Unknown HTREE\RESERVED\0). How do I fix this problem?
System will not read Windows Me's bootable CD.

Hello,
scan the registry for errors go:Start>run>scanreg.
what was the last thing you did before this started. Did you install new hardware?
Check for conflict. Delete all the temp files.
Perhaps you could also restore an earlier registry?

hi,
i have found that this problem also occurs in situations where a hard disk has been
formatted into to partitions. the error occurs after a month or two. the registry
string corrupts or begins acting a little strange. i have found pulling up the boot
sequence in setup, and booting from cd works. then dont delete a partition, but repair
windows. or install on top of the original. it should solve the problem. any more
help required e-mail me @ mogthesprog@hotmail.com

On a Windows ME computer, start the computer using the startup disk ( select the
option, start computer without cd rom support ).
On the command prompt type :
scanreg/fix (to fix the registry problem.)
If your computer is win98/win98SE :
Start the computer to command prompt only and run the same command to fix the registry
problem.

Please help me I had the same problem yesterday. My computer turned off due to high
temp (fan problems). I have windows me. How do I enter scanreg /fix. It enters safe
mode then scandisk then it is trying to search for new installed drivers and then
the error SUReg Created Key failed appears (Enum\HTREE\0)thats it.When I enter into
step by step it says that I had to run scanreg \fix however I dont now how.
I can enter setup (F2) and HP diagnostics (F10) and if I hit ESC key then I can
reboot from Hardisk or floppy or CDROM. I also can enter with F8 into safe mode,
normal mode or step by step.
My system recovery disk says that I have wrong notebook and then the prompt to A:
appear, in the C: prompt scanreg is not recognized. Does a windows 98 start disk
can help me? How do I start scanreg /fix. PLEASE HELP ME
My laptop is HP PAVILION with ATHLON PROCESSOR

Under run from startup menu I typed "scanreg", (scanreg\fix or scanreg/fix didn't
work). The computer automatically fixed the register problem.
Orignally I lost internect connection. On bootup it said it was looking for driver.
On checking add hardware it said there was a problem with cd driver which there wasn't.
On checking network the SUreg Create error came up. I fixed as above. However when
I use add hardware now it sees a network driver and the original cd driver problem.
So I may still have problems yet but at least the network is working. I won't worry
about unless I see another problem. The whole thing started when I was having a problem
copying a CD. Hope this helps.

My computer is an older model. This error occured this morning and now the computer
wont load further than the Scandisc when ME loads up in safe mode. It wont provide
me an active desktop, and theres no way to get to the start menu to get into any
directories. When going through the step-by-step method or attempting to enter DOS,
It wont allow me to proceed further than the bootlog.

The problem turned out to be missing references to HTREE in Bootlog.txt
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/pf/does.a.refere
nce.to.htree.in.bootlog.txt.indicate.a.virus.html
If you can run scanreg from dos, you may be able to get to an earlier verasion of
your registry and the system should launch
