Check to see if the (usually hidden) NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM files are on the C: drive
- and - the D: drive. Compare the sizes/versions of the ntldr & ntdetect.com files.
I suspect that you need to make a copy of the ntldr on the C: drive and keep it safe,
then replace it with the new ntldr from the Longhorn installation, given the /USENEWLOADER
parameter.
Just a hunch really,
Don't alter the boot.ini file as yet.

I got my copy of vista through a friend who has connections ;).
Here's my boot.ini file:
[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /FASTDETECT
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows Longhorn" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN
/FASTDETECT /USENEWLOADER
I'll have to look for someone around here who has a connection! (Envy!) ;-)
