If the shift key was working in Vista, then just stopped I would guess you have a problem with the Keyboard, but just a guess really. I remapped my Caps Lock Key on XP Computer to a Shift Key. I just don't like the Caps Lock Key myself. If you do have a bad keyboard you could give it a try. May hold you over for a while. I used registry edit to do it, and it was a bit difficult to do, and finding info about how Vista handles it may prove harder. Some Keyboard remapping software that works with XP, may work with Vista. Google should be able to help find such software. If you do find the keyboard is broken, Dell Laptop keyboards are also easy to find on the internet, and not to expensive either.
