Vista and Brother MFC-8440 software

I upgraded from XP Pro to Vista Ultimate. The upgrade went pretty smooth. However,
I have a Brother MFC-8440. I am able to print on Vista as it recognized the printer
and installed the driver. But I am not able to perform the rest of the functions
like scan, fax, etc. The device came with a software for that. So I tried reinstalling
the software. It won’t reinstall. So I contacted Brother. They don’t seem to be ready
with the new version.
When trying to install MFL-Pro Suite, after a few steps, it fails saying: Cannot
get Device Name Brother MFC-8440
