Battle of the default browsers

Running Vista RC1. Want Firefox 2.0 to be the default browser. It says that it is. However when I try to click a link in e-mail, for instance, IE 7 opens. Checking its settings reveals that it, too, thinks it is the default browser. I need IE 7 for those sites that Firefox cannot handle (primarily video sites) so I can't just get rid of it. How do I convince Firefox to reset itself and IE 7 to relinquish its iron grip? Thanks in advance!
