I would say to even have 1.5 to 2gb of RAM for Vista. Especially if you are a gamer.
With my system just idle my cpu usage is 40-50% and is using 400-500mb of ram. My
video card only has 128mb of memory 9600XT AIW) though. Not sure if that makes a
difference. My cpu is an AMD64 4000+
