Recognising Music CDs - Vista Problem

I'm finding my success in such a simple task quite hit and miss with Vista. When I insert a Music CD (to rip) Vista does not always recognise the disc and takes no action. When I click on the disk Vista behaves as though the disk is a CD-RW or a DVD-RW. I have a MSI DVD-RW drive. I should say this problem is intermittent. When I can get a disk recognised, I can then happily insert several CD's in turn and have them recognised. The problem is that there is consistency in the response from Vista. I have no problems with DVD's or Software CD/DVD with this hardware, which leads me to believe it is a possible Vista issue. ANyone had similar experiences and know how to solve?
